Dublin-Laurens County Habitat for Humanity Inc. is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities and hope. Dublin-Laurens County Habitat for Humanity, Inc is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.
HISTORY
Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, Christian housing ministry founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller. Habitat seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Today, Habitat for Humanity has built, rehabilitated and repaired homes for millions of people in thousands of communities all over the world.
Dublin-Laurens County Habitat for Humanity was established in 1993. Since that time, we have constructed over forty-one homes in Laurens County. Operated by a volunteer Board of Directors, Habitat depends upon individuals, churches, civic groups, businesses, grants, and fundraisers for financial support.
Through volunteer labor, and tax-deductible donations of money and material, Habitat builds houses with partners families in need of simple, decent shelter. Applicants are chosen on the basis of need, willingness to partner, and ability to repay. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor called sweat equity, into building their house and the houses of others. Habitat houses are sold to these families at no profit, financed with affordable, no-interest loans. Habitat does not just build structures; we build dignity, hope, opportunity, pride, communities, health, and economic independence all which make a global impact.
NON-PROSELYTIZING POLICY
Habitat for Humanity and its affiliate organizations will not proselytize. Nor will Habitat work with entities or individuals who insist on proselytizing as part of their work with Habitat. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must adhere to or convert to a particular faith or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.
